December 2025 – Having acted over more than twelve years as merchant navy officer, followed by forty years world-wide engagement as surveyor/loss adjuster in the marine and non-marine markets, I, at the end of 2024, decided to retire and to refrain from further professional activities.

It certainly was not a surprise as, during the last years, trading under the name of Schulp Surveyor, I repeatedly informed parties that me too, had a “best-before date” and that it was time to leave the loss-adjusting scene.

While nearing the end of 2025 now, I can conclude that my plan worked well.

Occasionally I had to tell people “NO” but guided them to good and active colleagues and the first quarter of the year was used to clean up my desk from a number of pending files, administration and archives.

Early 2025 I signed up with and joined Foundation Waterliin Amersfoort as volunteer and I am meanwhile engaged as Skipper, sailing and guiding tourists onboard one of our seven electrical propelled crafts through the canals of the ancient city of Amersfoort.

Moreover, and in line with my professional past, I recently joined the so-called “Waterlijn salvage team”, removing bicycles, washing machines, road signs and all kind of other objects that, for odd reasons, regular end up in our narrow and shallow canals, obstructing our fairways.

In combination with activities with my family, working in and around our house and garden, meeting friends, travelling, bicycling abroad and various other things that Maria and I can now do undisturbed, the same lifestyle as decades before can be maintained: Never a dull moment!
In concert with my web designer and web provider, it is agreed that this website will stay visible, but inactive, until mid 2026 and thereafter will be closed down.

Consequently, I consider this message as a Final Call!

I take the opportunity to thank everyone who enabled me to work and to do that my way.
